Faculty of Medicine International Postgraduate Scholarships (MIPS)

Overview of the scholarship

The Faculty of Medicine International Postgraduate Scholarship (MIPS) pays two-thirds of the annual course fee for the next 10 international applicants on the Faculty's scholarship order of merit list who were not offered an IPRS or MIPRS in the most recent end-of-year Monash University Postgraduate Research Scholarship Round.

Nomination procedure

It is not possible to apply for this scholarship.  Eligible applicants will be automatically considered.

Benefits

The MIPS pays two-thirds (2/3) of the annual course tuition fee(equal to $24,220, which is two-thirds of the full $36,330 per annum rate for 2012). The awardee is required to pay the balance (one-third (1/2) of the tuition fee) as well as Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and any other costs associated with applying for or extending a student visa.

Duration

Three years (3) for doctoral candidates and 18 months for masters by research candidates. The duration will be reduced by any periods of prior study undertaken towards the degree (if applicable).

Funding arrangements

The award is equally funded by the Faculty and the enrolling academic unit. The awardee will need to pay the balance of the course fees (equal to one-third (1/3) of the total course fee).

Current conditions of award

 Extension

Awardees are eligible to apply for a maximum extension of up to 12 months (six (6) for masters) if both the Faculty and the academic unit are agreeable and if funding is available. An extension will normally only be approved where research has been delayed by circumstances beyond the candidate's control and where such delays could not have been reasonably anticipated at the commencement of candidature. The grounds for an extension must be related to study and not of a personal nature.
