Graduate Diploma of Emergency Health (MICA Paramedic)Entry RequirementsApplicants need to be currently qualified Ambulance Paramedics, meet Ambulance Service Victoria selection requirements and have a minimum of two years post qualification clinical experience. Concurrent employment with an Ambulance Service in Victoria is required. Entry will require VCE including English, or equivalent as determined by the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences, ie the entry standard is equivalent to those for Monash University undergraduate degrees. Suitable applicants will be required to successfully complete the selection criteria as specified by Monash University and the ambulance services. By the completion of this course, the graduate should demonstrate: the expectations of the community, the industry and the profession as a MICA Paramedic and member of the health care team and the attitude and skills to continue to develop and further enhance their personal and professional development as a MICA Paramedic.
The graduate should have: the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes required to:
The graduate should develop skills to communicate and work effectively with other emergency services personnel and other members of the health care team in the setting of a changing health care and emergency medical services system, including the Communications Centre’s processes, and develop insight into the responses of patients and their relatives, to acute, life-threatening illness/injury, and care of self as a emergency services worker that includes critical incident stress management.
The graduate should have the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes necessary to practice as a MICA Paramedic within an appropriate ethical and professional construct; and contribute to Ambulance Services’ quality management and clinical audit strategies, information technology and research programs and practice within an evidence-based paradigm
The intended length of the course is one year full time. Extension to the time is at the discretion of the employing ambulance service and the Centre.
All students in the Graduate Diploma of MICA Paramedic Studies are required to complete a total of 6 x 6 credit point units, and 1 x 12 credit point unit.

Students with prior learning, qualifications and experience may apply for Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) assessment and may be granted credit of up to 33% of the Graduate Diploma.
The Graduate Diploma is an industry-funded program conducted on contract to the State Government through the Department of Human Services (DHS).
