Course Objectives

The objectives of the Bachelor of Paramedic Studies (degree conversion) are as follows:

By the completion of this program, the graduate should demonstrate:

  1. the generic academic and professional attributes normally expected of a Monash University graduate;
  2. knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes consistent with contemporary professional Ambulance and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedic clinical practice and service delivery, and an awareness of current trends and issues;
  3. an appreciation of current trends in the evolution of community based emergency health services both in Australia and overseas, as a basis for leading innovation in ambulance-based health care and appropriately responding to the challenge of change;
  4. knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to enable the Ambulance and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedic promote quality ambulance care and the improvement of ambulance service delivery;
  5. knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes of the principles and practices of evidence-based practice, and their application to Ambulance Paramedic and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedic clinical practice and service delivery;
  6. an expanded knowledge and understanding in a chosen area of special interest to the individual student; and
  7. the academic attributes necessary to commence graduate studies in specialist areas of ambulance paramedic clinical practice and/or service delivery.
