Conceptual Framework

The conceptual framework for The Bachelor of Paramedic Studies (degree conversion) is based upon the following key elements:

  • Developing professional attributes which would normally be expected of a Monash University graduate, e.g. computer skills, accessing information resources, teamwork, lifelong learning attributes, critical appraisal, communication and report writing abilities.
  • Underpinning current Ambulance and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedic clinical practice respectively, by analysing recent changes in clinical problem solving and decision making approaches, critical appraisal and application of theory to practice.
  • Undertaking critical analysis of current trends in the evolution of community based emergency health services both in Australia and overseas and how "Ambulance" can effectively contribute to the changing, broader health care system.
  • Developing knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes commonly required in similar conversion degree programs for other professional groups eg. legal, ethical and cultural parameters, all of which are relevant to the Ambulance and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedic.
  • Promoting understanding of the principles and practice of evidence-based practice, clinical epidemiology, research methodology, biostatistics, health informatics, clinical audit and quality processes and how this knowledge can be applied to professional paramedic practice.
  • Adding breadth and context to the academic and personal development of students through the provision of elective units of study that are relevant to the professional Ambulance and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedic.
