Course Attributes

The Bachelor of Paramedic Studies (degree conversion) will have the following attributes:

A 144 credit point, 3 year degree, meeting Monash University's normal approval process

The conversion degree allows for appropriate Advanced Standing to be granted for previously completed studies at Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels.

A vocational focus

The knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes developed in the degree enhances existing professional paramedic knowledge and expertise and promotes the professional development of students in order to meet the needs of both the paramedic profession and ambulance industry and related sectors. The degree program also prepares Ambulance and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedics for graduate studies in specialist areas of Ambulance and MICA/Intensive Care Paramedic clinical practice and service delivery.

Preparation for professional development and change in a modern, dynamic, evolving and integrated emergency medical service system.

The degree program encompasses a range of inter-disciplinary topics to cover the consideration of issues and concepts relating to modern, dynamic, evolving, and community-based emergency health services, e.g. public health, clinical epidemiology, industry based functions and health service organisations. Students are provided with opportunities to select units of study that provide broader understanding and depth of knowledge to assist them function within a community-based emergency health service.

Student centered and flexible learning

The degree program is student centered and takes all opportunities to offer units of study with as much flexibility as possible to meet the needs of the nation-wide student base. In particular, the program utilises distance education with on-line student support.

Underpinning breadth and depth as required of Monash University graduates

The degree program provides opportunities for students to develop an academic breadth and depth through their studies and experiences compatible with the attributes normally expected of Monash University graduates.
