Dr Jennifer Newton
EdD, BA(Hons) Nsg Ed, RCNT, RM, RN
Senior Research Fellow
Dr Jenny Newton joined the School of Nursing & Midwifery in 2000 with an extensive background in teaching nursing, with an undergraduate degree in this field. She has a rich breadth of experience in acute care nursing practice, education and research gained both within Australia and England. Over recent years she has developed strong collaborative links both nationally and internationally through her current research and engagement in reflective practice, workplace learning and practice development.
Her research experience and supervision of projects spans a diverse range across acute care, palliative care and aged care nursing. Jenny is a highly experienced qualitative researcher with particular interest in phenomenology, ethnomethodology, descriptive research, and action research. She has secured, with colleagues, over $700,000 in research funding on competitive grants and tenders in educational and acute care research. In particular she held an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship Award from 2006 to 2009.
Jenny is currently seconded part-time to the School of Primary Health Care as a senior research fellow/project manager. She is on the Editorial Board for the International and Interdisciplinary Reflective Practice Journal and a reviewer for a range of medical, workplace learning and nursing journals.
