Biography

Dr. Cheryle Moss joined Monash University in 2008 as Associate Professor Nursing, Research & Practice Development in the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Prior to commencing her work at Monash Cheryle held senior appointments in nursing at Victoria University of Wellington and Deakin University.  She also holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor at University of Technology Sydney.

Cheryle has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Advanced Nursing from Phillip Institute of Technology, a Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration from Hawthorn Institute of Advanced Education, a Master of Science (Nursing Administration) from the University of Edinburgh, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Southern Cross University.

Cheryle’s primary research interests include practice development, workplace learning, and action based qualitative research methods. She is currently involved in a funded research project on preferences and needs of patients with chronic asthma or chronic mental illness who attend emergency departments for an acute crisis.  Another series of research projects relates to the learning needs of post-graduate nurses and midwives: Development and evaluation of the H.O.M.I.n.G. framework for learning and teaching research design; evaluation of the experiences of participating in a ‘cultures of learning’ course; and investigation of the impacts of graduate education on health professionals’ life-course trajectory and their practice orientation.  With colleagues in New Zealand Cheryle is also involved in a pluralistic evaluation of a ‘good health-great learning’ initiative undertaken by public health nurses in conjunction with their local secondary schools.

Cheryle enjoys working with teams in clinical settings to support their practice development interests and action based clinical inquiry activities.  She has been involved in working with workplace teams to evolve their models of care, self-efficacy in building local developments, and to generally advance their communities of practice.
