About the School of Nursing and Midwifery

The mission of the School of Nursing and Midwifery is to be one of the finest and most innovative Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in Australia. It aims to be a School which embraces excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level locally, nationally and internationally. Through collaboration, it will develop a clearly focussed and competitive practice-based research profile that will be highly regarded by the profession and by industry.

The School offers a high quality education and a vibrant learning environment for students across several Australian campuses through on campus study, off-campus learning, and flexible learning, including electronic study units.

Studying nursing and midwifery at Monash University opens the door to new worlds. With the teaching of nursing programs at Monash University Malaysia, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea and Singapore, nursing and midwifery at Monash University has taken a significant step in becoming a truly global school.

The main research interests of the School are:

  • international and clinical nurse education;
  • clinical and advanced nursing practice (emergency, cardiac, community, mental health, aged and palliative care nursing);
  • professional practice issues (use of medications, rural nursing, role transition, nursing work);
  • nursing informatics and operations management.
