The Minister for Health (and Monash alumnus), the Hon. Daniel Andrews MP, has released an update on progress towards the establishment of a national scheme for registration and accreditation of health professionals.
On 13 October 2008, the Queensland Cabinet endorsed the Health Practitioners Regulation (Administrative Arrangements) National Law Bill into that state's Parliament based upon the framework agreed at the by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), which establishes the structural elements of the national scheme. Health Ministers have agreed to the release of an exposure draft covering substantive provisions of the national scheme including registration and accreditation processes, complaints arrangements, privacy and information sharing, and other matters, in early 2009. Prior to this, a number of consultative measures are planned.
