MISCL Student representative bodyThe MISCL student representative body (MSRB) are the elected representatives of the students at Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories (MISCL). The aim of the MSRB is to advocate the rights of students and facilitate the forging of strong bonds both within the student body and between the students and staff at MISCL. The students elect the MSRB representatives annually. In the interest of fair representation, the members consist of at least one student from each of the research groups at MISCL and at least one Honours, Masters and Ph.D. student. The office bearers include secretary, treasurer, staff representative and a student representative on MISCL Heads of Groups committee. As we believe in equality amongst all members, the MSRB does not elect a president or vice president. All students are invited to attend all meetings and have access to all meeting minutes, however only the representatives are allowed to vote. The MSRB is committed to providing a range of academic and social activities that enhance the experience of MISCL students. Academic endeavoursThe MSRB plans to organise an annual seminar for Masters and Ph.D. students to present their progress. This will not only provide invaluable experience for their careers but also promises to be an excellent social event and an opportunity for students to meet and talk with their peers and seniors in a relaxed atmosphere. In the future, the MSRB will also secure funding to offer small travel grants to students for participation in interstate and overseas conferences. NEWS: Annual Student Symposium The 2nd annual student symposium will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2008 (Venue TBA). It is compulsory for all students to present. Supervisors, Postdocs and Research Assistants are welcome.
The inaugural annual MISCL student symposium was held on the 19-20th November, 2007. The symposium provided an exciting and engaging forum for students to present their work, foster collaborations with other groups and be at the forefront of cutting edge research at MISCL. The financial support and valuable feedback from senior researchers ensured the success of this event and helps to shape future research at MISCL.
