Dr Steven Petratos is a neurobiologist with a major interest in remyelination and axonal re-growth following injury or disease of the central nervous system. He is the author of 30 publications in international journals including Nature Medicine, Brain, J. Neuroscience, Glia, J. Neuropathol. Experiment. Neurol., Neurobiol Dis. and J. Neurochem..

Dr Petratos completed his PhD in the Department of Pathology at The University of Melbourne. He has completed postdoctoral training at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, The Howard Florey Institute and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Monash University. Dr Petratos has received awards from: Commonwealth AIDS Research Grants Postgraduate Scholarship, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Australia Project Grant, Trish Multiple Sclerosis Research Foundation, 2 Senior Postdoctoral Fellowships from Monash University as well as securing project grant funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.

Dr Petratos currently holds an academic appointment as Senior Lecturer in Pathology & Immunology at RMIT University and Heads the Molecular Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology Laboratory within the Health Innovations Research Institute at RMIT University and the School of Medical Sciences. Dr Petratos has recently secured a prestigious project grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of the United States for the period of 2011-2014 along with a collaborative research training grant from TAIF University in Saudi Arabia. Steven has recently been appointed as a Senior Research Fellow at Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories where he also Co-Heads the Regenerative Neuroscience & Development Group.
