Ms Vicki Barrington

Qualifications: BSc(Deakin) GradDipDietetics(Deakin) MSc(Wollongong)

Vicki completed her Bachelor of Science degree and Graduate Diploma of Dietetics at Deakin University. She has twenty years experience as a clinical dietitian in major teaching hospitals, the past ten at The Alfred Hospital.

In 1997, Vicki completed her Masters of Science at University of Wollongong in clinical applications of Casemix for dietetics.

At the Alfred hospital one of her main tasks is the integration of nutritional principles with food services to improve the nutritional quality of meals served to patients. Integral to this work has been the development of innovative methodology allowing translation of nutrients into food menu items. As a result of this work, she has been a member of the DHS menu planning group for the Health Review of Metropolitan Melbourne Food Services. The Alfred Hospital standards have now formed the framework of menu design across the State. This model aims to ensure the nutritional adequacy of hospital meals for all patients, using a minimum nutritional status model. In recognition of her work, she was invited to present these key recommendations at the2005 Australian Parenteral and Enteral Society National Conference and the Institute of Healthcare and Hospitality conference. In 2006, Vicki has been invited as a key note speaker for the New Zealand Dietetic Association annual scientific conference.

Vicki commenced as a honorary Lecturer at Monash University in the Nutrition & Dietetic Unit in 2000 where she became part of a dietetic team to establish a new four year BND course. She is the convener for BND 2072 (Introduction to Healthcare systems), BND 2042 (Nutritional immunology) and has major teaching and training commitments for BND 3021(Nutrition assessment skills) BND 3052 (Clinical and therapeutic dietetics 1) BND 4011 (Clinical and therapeutic dietetics 2) and BND 4032 (Workload management)
