Tasmanian Study of Cognition and Gait (TASCOG)

NHMRC Project Grant (403000 and 491109); Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation Grant; Brain Foundation Grant

Lead Investigator: Dr. Velandai Srikanth

TASCOG is a population-based, longitudinal study of brain ageing using MRI phenotypes. The study is designed to analyse the effects of brain ageing on cognition, gait and falls, as well as the contribution of several novel physiological (e.g. physical activity, endothelial function) and biochemical factors (e.g. advanced glycation, oxidative stress) to the risk of brain ageing. The primary outcome measures focus on subclinical cerebrovascular disease (white matter hyperintensities) and neurodegeneration (brain atrophy).

The study is a collaborative venture, with several researchers from different institutions on this major initiative.
