MonashHEART

Monash Cardivascular Research Centre

The Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre (MCRC) is a self-funded, independent research group within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University (through the Southern Clinical School and Departments of Medicine and Surgery, Monash Medical Centre). The MCRC is also the formally recognised research arm of MonashHEART and is responsible for research functions as detailed in the MonashHEART and Southern Health strategic plan. Since 2006 the MCRC has also included researchers from The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Paediatric Cardiology Service within Southern Health.

Southern Health is the largest public hospital network in Victoria and provides extensive clinical and non-clinical postgraduate study facilities as well as undertaking significant medical research activities. MonashHEART, the Paediatric Cardiology Service and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery provide tertiary referral services in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery to a direct catchment of more than 750,000 people and an indirect catchment of a further quarter of a million people. International standard clinical and transitional research undertaken within MCRC supports the continued uptake by Southern Health clinical services of state-of-the-art cardiological and cardiothoracic treatments to improve the cardiovascular health and outcome of the people of Melbourne, of Victoria and on a national and international level.
