Dr Robert Medcalf Ph.D

NH&MRC Senior Research Fellow

Dr Robert Medcalf

Dr Medcalf commenced his research at Box Hill Hospital in 1993 after having spent seven years in the Department of Haematology, University of Lausanne in Switzerland. His research activities address the regulation of gene expression of the main components of the plasminogen activator (fibrinolytic) system using in vitro and in vivo systems. A large part of this program investigates post-transcriptional changes in the expression of these genes. His research has now extended to investigate the post-transcriptional mechanisms responsible for the elevated levels of prothrombin in patients with the G20210A prothrombin gene polymorphism. Dr Medcalf also has an interest in the role of t-PA within the central nervous system.

Dr Medcalf serves on the Editorial Boards of The European. Journal of Biochemistry, and the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Dr Medcalf is president-elect of the International Society of Fibrinolysis and Proteolysis (ISFP) and will be congress present of the International ISFP congress to be held in Melbourne, Australia in 2004 (“ISFP2004”: http://www.icms.com.au/ISFP2004).
