Department of Medicine Alfred HospitalInformation for StudentsThe Department of Medicine has extensive involvement in the education of medical students. In Year 3 MBBS, students enjoy a broad range of clinical experiences covering the gamut of clinical medicine. This stems from placements in many of the general and specialty medical units and departments. In addition to clinical placements and an extensive lecture and tutorial timetable students receive dedicated bedside tutorials to further history, examination and clinical reasoning skills. In Year 5 MBBS, students can undertake a six week Pre-Intern placement in the Professorial General Medical Unit (as well as in Surgery, Emergency, Geriatrics and a specialty of their choice). For further detail re MBBS teaching, see Undergraduate Medical Education Directorate. The Department of Medicine at The Alfred also contributes to undergraduate programs of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences in Biomedical Science, Nutrition and Radiography. |
