Student clubsMonash University Medical Undergraduates' Society (MUMUS)All medical students are eligible for free membership of MUMUS. MUMUS aims to foster the interests of students enrolled in medicine, and cater for their social needs. The MUMUS committee comprises students elected from each year of the medical course. Representatives liaise with academic staff and members of the faculty, as well as representatives from other medical and health science schools. Throughout the year, the MUMUS committee organises events including orientation activities, an annual ball, inter-year sporting challenges and barbecues. MUMUS represents students' views through representatives on Faculty Board and other faculty committees, including those dealing with selection, exclusion and education. Monash University Rural Practice AssociationWILDFIRE, the Monash Rural Health Club, was established in 1993 to encourage and support both rural and urban origin students who have an interest in rural health and rural practice. In recent years WILDFIRE has grown from a purely medical club to also encompass allied health students. Currently its membership is made up of approximately 400 medical, biomedical, nutrition, pharmacy, psychology and nursing students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The co-ordination of WILDFIRE is overseen by a committee of students chosen by the student body. Members are able to participate in numerous activities including educational seminars, clinical skills days, rural ambulance and GP placements, international health evenings, dinners with informative guest speakers and social events and have the opportunity to attend rural health conferences. WILDFIRE has close ties with the School of Rural Health, with the club's headquarters located within the School's Clayton campus office: Building 13A Room A113A. |
