We provide emergency relief services 3 days per week – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10 am to 12 noon & 1 pm to 3 pm.

Interview clients, assess needs & assist as required. Part of the interviewing process includes referrals to other services/organizations and working through personal issues with clients.
We offer a large range of services to our clients – including food, food vouchers, bill assistance, transport assistance, etc….

Negotiate payment options and plans for bills with external agencies.
Placement Details
Students will get an insight into the broad range of family situations within the region.
They will be able to see how low income effects the way people survive in today’s society and the many challenges these people face.
They will have an opportunity to speak to these families/individuals and to hear how they deal with everyday living.
They will gain an understanding of the medical/health issues that some people face and how the cost of these medications etc… impact on day to day survival.
They will gain an insight into what emergency relief agencies within the Latrobe Valley have to offer and how we can assist people.
All of the above could be made into a project.
Placement Parameters
Students will work alongside the community support worker and will assist in providing client needs.
They will sit in on interviews and may be required to do Administrative tasks under supervision.
Communication skills, negotiation skils and learning how to interact with persons from all walks of life will be a key skill they will learn.

Selection Criteria

A genuine interest in assisting less fortunate people, compassion and an ability to be able to assess people’s needs in a short period of time.
