CBP Calendar - Day 1

SHEILS & STONE Wednesday 22nd April 2009

Major tasks for the first day of CBP Placement:
1.  The main focus of the first day of CBP is getting to know the organisation, staff and clients at your agency. The Field Educator will provide an orientation session. You may want to clarify the placement expectations such as placement hours and dress code.

2.  Don't forget to take your Police Check (of twelve months or less) and Working with Children Check.  This will ensure you get off to a quick start!

3. The next step is to clarify the goals of the placement.  This is accomplished through the completion of the Learning Agreement.  We strongly recommend you sit down with your Field Educator at this stage and discuss:
Goal 1:  What personal and professional skills and knowledge do I want to develop during this placement?  What tasks will allow me to achieve this goal?
Goal 2:  What is the Field Educator’s goal for this placement?  What key learning does he / she want me to achieve?
Goal 3:  What can I contribute to the community / agency / client group? This goal represents the proposed outcomes of the Population Health project. You will also have started to gain a sense of the work done by the Agency and the client/community it serves. You may want to start thinking about and discussing with your Field Educator possible Population Health Research Projects.
Ideally, each goal will facilitate learning in each area.  So if you aim to develop your communication skills, you would be well-suited to undertaking client surveys for example.
Of course, you will develop and refine your goals over the next couple of weeks as you learn more about the organisation, but we recommend you start thinking about these as soon as possible.
