Bendigo offers two types of accommodation: Lister House and a range of rental houses which are close to the centre of Bendigo. Students in Bendigo either live at Lister House or in one of Monash’s rental properties. It is likely that Year 4 and of most Year 5 students will live in the rental houses. Year 3 and all non Monash students are placed at Lister House Accommodation Block.

All students are invoiced a fee for accommodation:

Accommodation Application
An Application form and a Tenancy Agreement must be completed and returned before accommodation can be confirmed

Arriving and leaving
Key pickup is by arrangement with the Accommodation Administrator. Generally, we expect you to arrive on the Sunday before the commencement of your rotation.
All residents must complete a Condition Report that is located in your room and return it to the Accommodation Administrator at the Mercy St Complex within 48 hours of taking up residency
All the facilities are inspected at the end of a rotation, it is expected that students leave the accommodation in a clean and tidy state in accordance with their Conditions of Residency.
Keys, ID and pager
When you arrive you will be given keys to your house or room. If you are staying at Lister House you will also be given swipe keys to the accommodation block and common room, and the main entrance to Lister House. (There is a charge to replace any lost keys.)
You will be issued a Bendigo Health ID badge during orientation which must be worn in the hospital at all times. Hospital pagers are distributed as needed depending on rotation
Accommodaton keys, Hospital ID's and Hospital pagers must be returned to the Accommodation Administrator before departing Bendigo
Lister House facilities
All the accommodation facilities are non-smoking areas. Each student room contains a single bed, lounge chair, desk and study chair. Each room is also fitted with a smoke detector. Other facilities are described below.
Kitchens
Lister House provides six kitchens and a food locker for each student in the common room block. Refrigerators in each kitchen are shared. There is also a kitchenette on each floor of the accommodation block. Food should only be prepared in the kitchens. Kettles, toasters, cooking appliances, even sparklers and birthday candles can activate the fire suppression system.
Laundries
A laundry is located on each floor of the accommodation block. You have free use of the washing machine, dryers, iron and ironing board. You will need to provide your own washing powder.
Television, DVD
A television and DVD player are located in the common room.
Telephones
You can make free local calls and receive incoming calls at the phone booth on each floor of the accommodation block. A coin operated phone is located in the ground floor booth.
Computers and Internet access
Computers are available for your use at Lister House and the library at Mercy Street. These computers give you access to the Internet and Monash network. If you have your own computer or laptop, wireless Internet is available in all student rooms.
Bicycle storage
Bicycles must not be stored in your room, hallways, common areas or the breezeway between the common room and accommodation block. A locked bicycle shed is located near the back entrance of Lister House. If you have a bicycle, you can arrange a key to the bike shed when you make arrival arrangements.
Car parking
You are not permitted to park in the driveways or grounds of Lister House. Parking is available close to Lister House in Short, Wattle and Rowan Streets. Be aware that some of Rowan Street is time-limited parking.
Heating/cooling
Lister House is heated by a hydronic (hot water) system. If you want to turn the heating down you can turn off the radiator. In summer the building is centrally air-conditioned.
Cleaning
The cleaners clean the bathrooms regularly, but you are responsible for keeping your room, the kitchenettes on each floor clean and the main kitchens clean. A vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies are located on each floor in the cleaner’s room next to the phone booth. Your room should be clean and the floor vacuumed at the end of your occupancy.

Emergency procedures are posted in every room. You should make yourself familiar with them.
Rental houses facilities
Television, DVD
Each house is provided a television and DVD player.
Telephones
You can make free local calls and receive incoming calls on the house phone.
Computers and Internet access
Each house is provided a broadband internet connection. Computers are also available in the library at Mercy Street. A wireless Internet connection is available if you have your own laptop or desk top computer.
Bicycles
Each house has different storage facilities, but bicycles should not be stored in the house where they will pose access problems for other residents. If you want to bring a bicycle, ask about storage when you originally arrange your accommodation.
Car parking
Parking arrangements will vary between houses. However, you should be able to park either on site or in your street.
Heating/cooling
Heating and cooling facilities will vary between houses. You may use an oil heater if you feel the need. However, fan heaters are banned as they pose a fire risk. If you are unsure how to operate the heater or air conditioner, contact the Accommodation Coordinator.
Cleaning
Students are responsible for cleaning rental houses. You and your housemates will need to work out how you will allocate responsibilities when you move in. A vacuum cleaner, mop and bucket are provided in each house.
