Sport and Physical Activity research Workshop

Towards a Monash Research Network

PROGRAMME

Announcement and Call for Abstracts

Monash University has a wide range of research interests in sport, physical activity, health and wellbeing, together with excellent sports facilities and educational programs. With the support of the Vice-Chancellor, a workshop will be held on 14th and 15th July 2004, at Bayview Conference Centre, to showcase our sport and physical activity research profile, and to conduct a workshop on the desirability of forming a Research Network/Centre at Monash University.

We encourage attendance and participation of researchers from all faculties who have interests in sport and physical activity for example:

  • Sports and recreation related injuries
  • Physical activity and disease prevention
  • Sports and the Law
  • Economics of Sport and sporting events
  • Sports management and marketing
  • Physical activity participation in schools
  • Society and the role of sport and physical activity
  • History of Sport, Sport Science and physical activity
  • Mathematics and modelling in sport
  • Drugs and pharmaceuticals in sport and physical activity
  • Physical activity, recreation, sports and tourism
  • Advertising in sport, physical activity and health
  • Sports psychology
  • Physical activity and mental health
  • Sports science and medicine
  • Role of computers and software in sport and physical activity
  • Or any sport and/or physical activity research interests not listed

The workshop is being arranged by a small coordinating team, established as a steering group early in 2004, consisting of Professors Leon Piterman, Warwick Anderson, Max King and Martin Doulton, John White and Dr Nigel Stepto.

The workshop will be held over two days, with a dinner on the first evening. The first day will be devoted to brief presentations of research by active Monash researchers.  The second day will consist of workshop groups considering the possible structure, aims and vision of a Sports and Physical Activity Research Network/Centre.

All interested Monash staff and affiliates are invited to submit abstracts and/or to register for the workshop. The organisers are keen to have as wide a cross–section as possible of the Monash community attend and contribute their ideas to this issue.

There will also be opportunities to mount displays and interested parties should contact the Project Coordinator in the first instance. This may be of interest to Monash people with sports interests other than research, and private sector sponsors.
