Melissa Friesen received a PhD in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, specializing in quantitative exposure assessment methodologies for cohort studies, in September 2006 from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. This included investigating PAHs, cancer, and mortality in aluminium smelter workers and exposure to wood dust, noise, and chlorophenols and various health effects in sawmill workers. Previous degrees include an MSc in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (2001) and a BSc in Chemistry (1997).
Melissa joined MonCOEH in February 2007 as a Research Fellow and is currently involved in Healthwise, a large occupational cohort study on Australian aluminium industry workers, among other ongoing occupational studies.
