Caroline is widely regarded both internationally and nationally as Australia's leading sports injury epidemiologist. In addition to her sports injury prevention expertise, she has a background in non-communicable diseases epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical trials and broader injury prevention. She holds a PhD in Biostatistics/Epidemiology from Monash in 1995 and an MSc in Biostatistics from La Trobe University in 1986. She is the Head of the Victorian State Trauma Registry which is based in the Department. This exciting initiative will be establishing a state-of-the-art trauma registry and outcomes monitoring system for Victoria.

She also leads an active sports medicine research team. Her research interests include trauma and injury surveillance systems, monitoring and predicting trauma outcomes, the epidemiology of trauma, sports injury epidemiology and the evaluation of the effectiveness of sports injury prevention measures. She is a sports safety and public health adviser to the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care, the Australian Sports Commission, Sports Medicine Australia, Sport and Recreation Victoria, the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation and the Australian Rugby Union. She chairs the National SportSafe Committee and is a member of the editorial board for the British Journal of Sports Medicine. From January 2002, she will be the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport..
