Colouring Greyscale images with Photoshop

  1. Open (or create) a grayscale image and then choose Image, Mode, Indexed Color

  2. Then choose Image, Mode, Color Table

  3. Drag your cursor from the top color box to the bottom-right color box. The Color Picker appears with the legend "Select first color". The color should already be on black but if not, drag the cursor to the bottom left or make sure R, G and B settings are all [0] and K(=black) is [100%]. Click on OK.

  4. The color picker appears again with the legend "Select last color" Click on either R (Red), G (Green) or B (Blue) and type in 255, then click OK

If you have the initiative to do the following, it will save you time and is a once only process.

  1. Download the following file and note the file location:

    ColouringGreyTIFS.ATN
    (Rt click [PC] or click & hold [Mac] -choose save this link as..)

  2. Next, open Photoshop and bring up the Actions palette -Window menu, show Actions. If the History/Actions box is already on screen then click the Actions tab to make it active.

  3. Click the small arrow head in the top right of this box then choose Load Actions..



  4. Navigate to the downloaded file, select it and press Load

  5. Now when you open a greyscale (indexed, see above point 1) image you can choose the action you wish and click the play button (see below)

N O T E :

Graphic Converter 4.0 (Mac) can open Bio-Rad.pic files, these can then be saved out as filename.tif for Photoshop manipulation
