Hudson Institute of Medical Research is one of Australia’s top medical research institutes, specialising in driving innovative, cutting-edge research towards improved prevention, diagnosis and treatments for our greatest health challenges.
The Institute is an NHMRC accredited, not-for-profit, independent medical research institute which resulted from the 2014 merger of two of Australia’s most trusted names in medical research, Monash Institute of Medical Research (MIMR) and Prince Henry’s Institute (PHI).
The Institute has a combined 75 years of research experience, more than 450 leading researchers and postgraduate students, an annual budget of more than $45m and state-of-the-art research platforms and facilities.
Under the guidance of CEO and Director, Professor Bryan Williams, Board Chair, Dr Robert Edgar and the Hudson Institute Board, the Institute drives innovative, cutting-edge research programs through its six-specialised research centres, which seek to respond to Australia’s key health priorities.

Hudson is world-renowned for its research into reproductive and baby health and is a leading centre for research into infection and innate immunity, now closely tied to the latest new developments for cancer treatment.
The Hudson builds on a pioneering history of renowned successes from the development of current IVF technology, to changes in practices for the prevention of SIDS and the discovery of Inhibin, leading to diagnostic tests for Downs Syndrome and for certain ovarian cancers.
Our location at the Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP), including a purpose-built $84M translational research facility, complete with world best technology platforms and clinical trial facilities.
This positioning, immediately adjacent to our close collaborators, Monash University, Australia’s largest University and Monash Health, one of Australia’s largest healthcare networks, provides a fertile environment for breakthrough collaboration between researchers and clinicians focussing effort on the most pressing diseases and bringing novel science based treatments to the clinic.
