Career Opportunities
The core units in health science, health promotion and community capacity building will lead to a variety of community-based jobs in planning, organising or coordinating health services, education and policy in clinics, hospitals, community organisations and local government, public health departments, managed care and related institutions.
Social workers find employment in both government and nongovernment sectors, community-based organisations and hospitals, and in chronic and critical care situations. They contribute to the planning, administration and management of social and resources as well as direct service delivery in hospitals, government departments and the community. With additional experience and study, social workers also work in private practice as organisations managers or consultants, family therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists. Graduates of the BHSc/ BSW will find additional pathways in the primary health, community health and women’s health sectors in the design, implementation and management of the community and health development programs.
