Profile

Jessica’s area of expertise is in policy-linked Health Impact Assessment (HIA). Her research to date has explored the application of HIA to regeneration schemes and specifically Neighbourhood Renewal in Victoria. Jessica is also interested in the potential role for HIA in addressing issues associated with social exclusion and its utility as a mechanism to engage communities in policy decision-making processes. Her interest in issues of social justice, equity and the role that public policy plays in people’s experience of health and wellbeing has informed her research direction. Jessica continues to work collaboratively with the Department of Human Services and with colleagues at Monash University will provide technical support and capacity building to a number of regional and local demonstration projects.

Jessica also has a keen interest in community health and families’ research, particularly family violence and its impact on individual, family and community wellbeing. In 2002, Jessica worked with the Department of Human Services to explore the feasibility of using HIA within Indigenous policy making linked to family violence. A rapid Health and Wellbeing Impact Assessment Tool was subsequently developed.
