Profile

Dimitri Batras joined the Department of Health Social Science in 2006 upon completion of his Masters degree in Public Policy and Management. He has qualifications and practical experience in health promotion capacity building, project management and design, health and social research, and evaluation. He has undertaken work in these areas for academic institutions, public benefit and not for profit organisations.

Dimitri was previously a member of the department’s Health Impact Assessment (HIA) consultancy and health promotion teaching teams. He is now focussing solely on research.

Along with Associate Professor Ben Smith, Dimitri is currently working in partnership with ARTD Consultants to evaluate the VicHealth funded Participation in Community Sport and Active Recreation (PICSAR) Program. The PICSAR program evaluation is funded for three years. Dimitri has been working closely with representatives from State Sporting Associations’, Regional Sports Assemblies, Community and Peak organisations to capture the lessons from the program.  He is also seeking to identify the determinants of increased physical activity participation amongst population groups that have traditionally been less represented in sport and recreation.
