Evaluation in Health PromotionCourse OverviewAmong the range of key health promotion competencies, program evaluation is one that practitioners often say that they want to strengthen further. Effective evaluation is necessary for improving practice, advocating for greater support for health promotion, and building sustainability. This two-day short course is facilitated by specialists in health promotion evaluation and research who bring experience from work in diverse settings on a range of issues. It is a skills orientedcourse that will enable participants to make well informed evaluation choices, to be more confident in tackling evaluation challenges, and to be more systematic in evaluation planning. Course AimsThis two- day course will equip participants with skills to design and undertake the evaluation of health promotion projects. Participants will explore fundamental decisions which guide evaluation planning and have an opportunity to use and discuss a practical evaluation planning tool. The course will examine different evaluation designs that can be adopted and consider the complementary roles that quantitative and qualitative methods can play. The challenges inherent in the evaluation of projects of differing scales and with diverse population groups will be discussed. Participants will learn about steps in the development of data collection instruments. Ample scope will be given for sharing experiences and discussing evaluation challenges faced by participants. Who can attend this course?The course has been developed to equip health promotion practitioners working across a range of settings, including those in specialist roles and others with who have some health promotion responsibilities in their job. It will be beneficial to both new and more experienced practitioners who wish to deepen their knowledge and improve their skills. Course Dates
