Health Impact Assessment - Home

Internationally, Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is a discipline that is rapidly expanding with considerable interest in its development and practical application demonstrated worldwide from a range of government and non-government agencies including the World Health Organization. In recent years, Australian research and development work has focused on exploring HIA and its application in policy development and its contribution to broader agendas including healthy public policy and population health planning.

Monash University's Department of Health Social Science is an advocate of HIA and supports its continued development within Victoria, Australia and internationally. The Department of Health Social Science is committed to work that strengthens the development and adoption of policy that actively promotes health and wellbeing. As advocates for action that addresses heath and social inequities, the Department of Health Social Science undertakes high quality research, provides education and training opportunities to build capacity for HIA and offers consultancy and support.
