Undergraduate Teaching

The Department of General Practice has a high profile in undergraduate teaching, both in delivery and coordination of the 5-year curriculum. Teaching focuses on the integration of clinical skills, problem-solving and communication skills, to enable holistic care of patients and their families within the community. The philosophy of the Department is to foster an enthusiastic and caring approach to teaching students, with well-structured programs, transparent assessment and feedback, pastoral care and flexibility.

5-year Curriculum

Staff members have been heavily involved in curriculum development, especially in the areas of Personal and Professional Development (Theme One), Population, Society, Health and Illness (Theme Two), and Clinical Skills (Theme Four). General Practice is coordinating much of the teaching for the Clinical Skills component of Years 1 and 2, and will also be involved in the delivery of other themes. In Year 4, medical students spend one quarter of the year dedicated to General Practice.  Staff members are heavily involved in the delivery of this General Practice program.
