In honour of Vivian Bullwinkel's lifelong work, the Chair in Palliative Care Nursing has been established to conduct research into the provision of palliative care of people who are dying, and their families; and to enhance palliative care nursing both nationally and internationally.

The research interests in palliative care nursing include:

• What Happens in the Dark? What is the level of support for home carers?
• Bereavement support - What is on offer?
• Care of the Dying in Private Hospitals.
• Communication Issues between Palliative Care Staff and Families.
• Veterans' Deaths - What are their Special Needs?
• Outcomes in Palliative Care
• Death Care in the Home
• History of Vivian Bullwinkel, AO, MBE, ARRC, ED, Fnm, FRCNA

The current Chair in Nursing, Palliative Care is held by Professor Margaret O'Connor who has an impressive 20 year contribution to the field to date and leads an accomplished team of researchers. The Monash University Medical Foundation gratefully acknowledges the partners in the Vivian Bullwinkel Chair in Nursing, Palliative Care: Peninsula Hospice Services, the Royal District Nursing Service and Peninsula Health.

The Vivian Bullwinkel Memorial Fund Gala Dinner

The Vivian Bullwinkel Memorial Fund Gala Dinner on 18 August 2006 at the Melbourne Museum was a great success. Generously promoting the memory of Vivian Bullwinkel and supporting the fund through participation on the night were Former Chief of Defence, General Peter Cosgrove AC MC, Lt Georgina Whelan, RAN, Commander Medical Unit, Banda Aceh, Tsunami Relief Effort and Ms Ita Buttrose AM.
