World Health Summit: the evolution of medicineBerlin, 15-18 October 2009The World Health Summit is the world's foremost meeting of researchers, physicians, politicians and stakeholders within the healthcare system. The inaugural Summit was held during October 2009 at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany, under the patronage of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and the President of the French Republic. Monash University as a member of the M8 Alliance of Academic Health Centers and Medical Universities was a key participant in the World Health Summit. The M8 Alliance is a medical and scientific forum of excellence, and provides a network for prestigious medical institutions to address scientific, political, and economic issues related to medicine and public health. Together with stakeholders from politics and industry at a global level, Monash University and other members of the M8 Alliance worked within the platform provided at the World Health Summit to address global medical development issues and challenges in health care and medical research. A key feature of Monash's participation in the Summit was the involvement of some of our younger researchers, adding a fresh perspective to the proceedings. Podcasts featuring Dr. Nicole Rinehart, Dr. Michelle Dunstone, Dr. Mylinh La and Dr. Karin Leder, reflecting upon their experiences in Berlin will be posted here shortly.
