Nanotoxicology: Current and Emerging Issues

Aims: The purpose of this course is to introduce some emerging concepts related to the safety assessment of nanomaterials, and to discuss some risk management issues relating to their manufacture and use.
Overview:

Topics include: What is nanotechnology? definitions of nanoparticulates and other nanomaterials; products and applications; How may nanoparticulates differ in their properties compared to materials on which they are based?
measurement and metrology of nanomaterials; routes of exposure; mechanisms of toxicity and potential adverse health outcomes; factors which may regulate toxicity of nanoparticulates; regulatory gaps in risk management; PPE and containment issues; community backlash and its possible impact on the nanotechnology industry

RACGP, RNZCGP and RCNA & NZ Nursing Association Continuing Medical/Nursing Education Points
Courses are eligible for RACGP QA&CPD Program Category 2 points for the 2005-2007 triennium.  The RNZCGP has a reciprocal arrangement with the RACGP under which members attending CME run by an RACGP accredited provider can claim CME credits. Courses are endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing, Australia for CNE points as part of the RCNA Life Long Learning Program (3LP).
The NZ Nursing Assocation accepts these courses towards continuing education hours.
