Aims
|
This course will cover the principles of injury epidemiology, prevention and control. The unit will provide an introduction to the injury epidemiology and prevention field with a particular focus on issues facing injury surveillance, countermeasure development, injury policy and injury outcomes.

Overview
|
On completion of this unit, students will have an understanding of:
- The concept of injury as a preventable health condition
- The burden of injury
- Principles of injury prevention and control
- Data requirements and injury surveillance
- The strengths and limitations of research methods used to define the nature and extent of injury
- Development of injury prevention programs, frameworks for countermeasure development and their evaluation
- Approaches to injury policy and legislation
- Issues in the measurement of injury severity, definition, burden and outcome
