Aims
The aim of this short course is to provide course participants with an understanding of what constitutes good practice in research and what factors make research ethical or unethical.
Overview
This short course aims to increase awareness of the kinds of ethical issues that arise in clinical research. Participants will learn about national and international guidelines on ethics in research and the current system of HREC review.
The course is presented by speakers with substantial hands on experience of both clinical research and research ethics committees. The presentations will focus on the following themes: what is ‘ethical research conduct’?; what is expected of researchers?; thinking beyond ethics approval; hints in applying HREC approval; and the additional needs of vulnerable populations.
