Suitable for
People who: 1) are familiar with basic statistical concepts such as two-way tables, odds ratios, confidence intervals, chi-square tests and p-values, 2) have not encountered logistic regression before, and 3) who are familiar with, or have undertaken an introductory workshop to, Stata statistical software.
Aims
To provide a thorough introduction to logistic regression concepts and methods. To highlight its role as a mechanism to quantify confounding and effect modification (i.e. mediating and moderating effects of variables on an exposure-disease relationship). To discuss strategies for conducting logistic regression with many explanatory variables. To provide training that enables people to perform logistic regression in the Stata 11 statistical software package. |
Overview
- Mantel-Haenszel stratified odds ratios
- Logistic regression equivalence to M-H approach
- Interpretation of coefficients in the logistic regression model
- Binary, continuous and categorical covariates
- Confounding and effect modification in logistic regression
- Logistic regression and multiple covariates
- Case-control studies
