The course aims to give students a broad overview of the problems raised by chronic diseases in Australia in the early 21st century. It aims to cover

  • the major disease groups
  • methods used to measure the occurrence and impact of these conditions
  • methods to manage and prevent these conditions.

The 2 day block program contains the following topics:

  • cardiovascular conditions
  • obesity
  • cancer
  • injury
  • tobacco control
  • upstream social determinants of chronic diseases
  • risk factors for chronic diseases
  • health promotion
  • epidemiological modelling of chronic diseases
  • economics of chronic disease
