Clinicians, people involved in public health, and anybody interested in an introduction to investigation of outbreaks and modelling of infectious diseases.
Aims

The aims of this course are:

  • to show how use of mathematical modelling of infectious diseases enhances understanding of factors that contribute to transmission of infections, and how modelling can be used to assess the impact of different preventive measures;
  • to provide an understanding of how infectious disease outbreaks are detected and managed.
Overview

This course will provide an overview of modelling and outbreaks of infectious diseases. No mathematical knowledge is required. Aspects discussed will include basic principles as well as practical examples that highlight important pragmatic issues. There will also be a case study focusing on avian influenza.

$400 (excl GST) per day
