Vanessa graduated with an Honours degree in Humanities from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand in 2000. Vanessa spent three years as the Research Liaison Officer at The Institute of Cancer Research in London before joining MonCOEH as Project Coordinator in 2004.

 Her role expanded to Centre Manager in 2006.
