Dr Chris Stevenson

Dr Chris Stevenson joined the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine as head of the newly formed Epidemiological Modelling Unit in early 2008 after a 30 year career as a biostatistician and epidemiologist. Prior to joining Monash University, Chris was head of the Functioning and Disability Unit at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). During his time at the AIHW, Chris was also a co-author of both Australian Burden of Disease studies (1999 and 2007), he was part of the original evaluation study which led to the national breast and cervical cancer screening programs in Australia, he co-authored the analyses of program data from the Australian Bowel Screening Pilot which led to the establishment of the national bowel screening program, and he headed the AIHW’s National Cardiovascular Disease Monitoring Centre. Chris has a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health from the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra and a Masters Degree in statistics, also from the ANU.
