Samia is a specialist in occupational medicine. In 2004 she was awarded a PhD in Epidemiology from Toulouse University in France, studying the effect of occupational stress on hypertension and lifestyle behaviours.

Samia visited the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health for twelve months from May 2004 - April 2005 as a Research Fellow on an NHMRC-INSERM exchange post-doctoral grant, working on a study looking at job stress and lifestyle behaviours jointly with Monash Unversity and the University of Melbourne. She was also involved in the Asthma Burden project.

From July-December 2006, Samia was a Senior Research Fellow, working on the Australian arm of an international study on musculoskeletal symptoms and disability. At present, Samia is an Honorary Fellow with the Department.
