He is employed for the 5 year NHMRC funded project, “Better targeting of preventive strategies for chronic diseases using epidemiological modeling” and is currently developing improved risk prediction functions for CVD events which will help to improve a percentiles risk model for CVD developed earlier by Prof McNeil and Dr Peeters. He also teaches parts of some biostatistics courses in the department. His previous appointment was with University of Sydney where he worked for about a year as level B (step 1) Research Fellow just after submitting his PhD thesis in epidemiology/biostatistics completed at the School of Population Health, University of Western Australia, Perth. His thesis was titled Development and use of Monte-Carlo-Markov cycle tree model for coronary heart disease incidence/mortality and health service usage with explicit recognition of coronary artery revascularization procedures (CARPs). Haider also has Masters degrees in epidemiology/biostatistics and statistics from the University of Western Ontario in Canada, and University of Dhaka, Bangladesh respectively. He has a particular interest in epidemiological modeling and has so far published fourteen papers in international peer reviewed journals in epidemiology/biostatistics/population health. His other research interests are in application of statistical methods in longitudinal/spatial/demographic data and use of record linkage in health research. |
