David Goddard graduated in medicine from Monash University in 1969. Post-graduate coursework led to his obtaining a Diploma in Occupational Health (University of Sydney, 1975) and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (Monash University, 2000). David has worked in occupational medicine since 1973. His years of experience with the railways, State Government Occupational Health Service and State Worker's Compensation system have afforded a useful backdrop to his role as a teacher.
David teaches medical undergraduates in occupational medicine and postgraduate students in toxicology. He loves teaching and puts substantial effort into preparing notes, presentations and assessments for his students. In 2001, he was successfully nominated by his medical students for the Monash University Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Teaching.
In December 2007, he was appointed to a two-year part-time position as Education Project Officer of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. His role is to develop ways to improve the training of Faculty trainees in occupational medicine. He welcomes this role because it gives a way to steward his understandings of education and occupational medicine for the benefit of others.
