Elizabeth Douglas graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1970, and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Behavioural Health Care in 1988 and a PhD in cardiovascular psychophysiology in 2001, both at La Trobe University. She worked for seven years in cardiovascular psychophysiology at La Trobe University in the areas of blood pressure reactivity to stress, and the effects of caffeine, In 1998, as Research Fellow at the Centre for Adolescent Health (University of Melbourne and Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne) she broadened her research interests to include risk and protective factors for adolescent health. From 2001 to 2004 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the National University of Ireland, Galway, managing a six-nation European Union Fifth Framework project investigating the effects of caffeine. She took up her current position in July 2004.
