Durga Shrestha, BSc, MSc, MPH

PhD Candidate


Mrs Durga Shrestha is a PhD student in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. She has a Masters degree in Public Health (with major in International Health) from the University of Melbourne. She also has a Masters degree in Medical Microbiology from the Tribhuvan University, Nepal. She has extensive teaching and research experience from universities in Nepal, as well as some teaching and research experience from Australia. She has also worked at several national and international non-governmental organisations in Nepal and Australia on several projects. Key areas of her research are microbiology and epidemiology of HIV and AIDS, hepatitis and other infectious diseases as well as health service management.

The title of Durga’s PhD project is “Aspects of work and life satisfaction of doctors in Australia.” Dr Catherine Joyce, Professor John Humphreys and Asst. Prof. Guyonne Kalb are her supervisors. Her study aims to describe and explain the factors, both professional and non-professional, that contribute to job satisfaction, life satisfaction and work-life balance of Australian doctors. This will provide the basis for planning and implementing more appropriate and effective workforce policies targeting improved recruitment and retention of doctors in the area of workforce shortages in Australia.
