Summary

This will be a large cohort study of the determinants and sequaelae of disease in the elderly, involving approximately 15000 participants. The study will provide information on a wide range of health outcomes, including indices of morbidity and disease-related costs, and health services utilisation. Disease areas of interest are cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, cancers, locomotor problems, mental disorders and dementia, and opthalmological afflications. This study will serve as a landmark study in terms of providing comprehensive data on the health experience of the elderly in Australia.
