Information for Malaysian Medical School students – Exchange In bound

  • All units studied abroad will be credited towards your Monash degree.
  • Participants will be supported by a travel grant of $3,500 AUD, to assist with living, transport and other costs incurred during the exchange program.

You will need:

Procedure:

1.  Application form

Complete the Monash Abroad application form  and hand into staff at Johor Bahru either at the information session or as advised.  This is a special form for the MBBS program which is available on the Faculty of Medicine website and is different from the one on the Monash Abroad website.

2.  Letter of Offer

Monash Abroad will process your application and send you a Letter of offer together with instructions and information regarding the process to be followed

3.  Acceptance

You will need to accept the offer by completing a student acceptance form and returning it to Monash Abroad within 7 days.

4.  Health Insurance

You must also submit a payment of $175 AUD to Monash Abroad with your acceptance, for your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for one semester. The OSHC is a compulsory visa requirement for all international students.

5.  Visa

  • After you have returned the student acceptance form, Monash Abroad will issue you with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) form via your student email account. You will need the CoE plus the offer letter in order to apply for your student visa. You should then lodge your visa application immediately.  The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) is responsible for the issuing of student visas. The DIAC website  gives full details on how and where to apply for your visa.

  • Students from some countries can apply for visas on line, but from other countries it may take up to 6-8 weeks to obtain a visa, especially if you need to get a health clearance. Your visa will cost approximately $450 AUD. It is very important to fully understand your obligations and responsibilities when applying for a student visas. Please note that intercampus exchange students must apply for a higher education student visa (subclass 573) and are not permitted to enrol under any other visa types. You should not book non-refundable travel until your visa has been approved.
  • IELTS test -Depending on your country of origin, Australian Immigration may require you to sit an IELTS test even though you have been studying at Monash University in an English teaching environment. Unfortunately this is a visa requirement and not a Monash requirement and we are unable to overrule this condition.

6.  Travel Insurance

You will need to organise private travel insurance at home before you travel to cover the duration of your study overseas. The OSHC insurance will provide only basic medical and hospital costs while in Australia. Also OSHC does not cover you whilst travelling to and from Australia, or if you have an emergency and need to return home urgently, or provide any cover for your airfares or personal effects. This is a mandatory requirement.
