Immunisation and Infection Risk

Clayton BRadMedImg students

First year BRadMedImg students at Clayton must read the Faculty’s Immunisation and Infection Risk policy carefully and do the following:

STEP 1. Obtain personal immunisation records and check them against the recommended schedule.  Please refer to The Australian Immunisation Handbook (Vaccination procedures and the standard vaccination schedule, pg 28).

Personal records may be found via:

  • Parents/guardian (e.g. immunisation book or card)
  • Local government council or shire where vaccinations were administered (some councils/shires charge a small fee)
  • School records
  • Medical Practitioners (if they have provided vaccinations)

Depending on your circumstances your may need to update vaccinations and/or undergo antibody testing for some vaccine preventable diseases, and, if antibody negative, receive vaccination. Note that over time the immunisation schedule has changed and may include vaccines not available in the past.

STEP 2. Three forms must be completed and returned to Administrative Officer, Rm 132, Building 13C. Please down load these and get started on them as soon as possible.

STEP 3. Attend an immunisation appointment with a qualified medical practitioner (who is not a relative). Note: You are strongly advised to attend the University Health Service (UHS) for your immunisation appointments. The Administrative Officer will organise this for you early in Semester One. The UHS is free to students, and vaccines will be provided at a discounted rate.  Students seeing their own doctor must notify Administrative Officer in Building 13C and follow the procedures provided.

Students’ immunisation statuses are reviewed and updated at these appointments. They should also include:

  • TB testing
  • Testing for blood borne viruses (HIV, Hepatitis B and C) and
  • Discussion of risks and implications for transmission of disease.

4. When all appointments and testing have been completed, the Student Declaration form (pdf, 118kB)   must be signed and returned to the Administrative Officer, Building 13C, Clayton Campus.

5. Students who elect to see their own medical practitioner MUST have the Confirmation of Consultation form (pdf, 20kB) completed and returned.
