Jenny is a general surgeon with a long-standing interest in health professional education. She undertook postgraduate studies in medical education and obtained her Masters in Medical Education from Toronto.

Her educational research interests include the acquisition of surgical skills, student selection and programme evaluation. She is involved in educational activity and planning at the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and is an elected member of council with that college. She undertook a Doctor of Education at the University of Melbourne, being awarded the John Smyth Award for her thesis in 2008
